Blanket Town Winter Blend | 2026 Edition

At one point, Swannanoa was home to the largest blanket manufacturer in the world.
Beacon Manufacturing didn’t just make blankets — it made a town. For decades, warmth quite literally left Swannanoa and travelled far beyond this valley. 

When the mill closed, and later burned in 2003, the loss wasn’t just physical. It was emotional. A sense of identity went quiet. A town that once felt central slowly faded into the background.

Years later, momentum returned in quieter ways. New faces. New ideas. Families stitching together something honest and hopeful. A different kind of warmth. Then Hurricane Helene came through, stopping everything in its tracks. Once again, loss moved through this valley. Once again, the whole world looked our way.

This town knows how to be seen in its hardest moments.

What followed wasn’t simple. It never is. But neither is Swannanoa. Because alongside the depth, something sweet kept showing up. In neighbors. In hands rebuilding. In the way beauty and warmth refuses to leave this place.

That’s the story we wanted this year’s Blanket Town Winter Blend to tell.

For the 2026 edition, we chose three coffees that carry real depth, body, and warmth — coffees that feel grounded and serious — but each with a sweetness that finds its way through. Papua New Guinea brings black tea depth with dark honey sweetness cutting gently through. Costa Rica adds toasted warmth, softened by marshmallow sweetness. Colombia offers sugar brightness peeking through layers of browning. Each coffee is a contrast on its own. Together, they produce something entirely well-rounded.

Heavy, but not hollow.
Sweet, but not fragile.

Together, they create a cup that starts deep and comforting, then opens into something quietly beautiful. The sweetness doesn’t rush in — it lingers. 

Just like this town.

I guess contrast is often more necessary than we realize.
Fire will refine something.
Water can reshape something.
Loss is often the first step to rebirth.

Something beautiful often comes out of the most broken of things.
Kind of like our Blanket Town.
