We feel so dang honored to be able to carry this coffee. Every once in a while, you find a coffee that stops you in your tracks...and this was that coffee for us.
This exceptional coffee is a testament to the rich heritage and meticulous craftsmanship of smallholder farmers in the Guji region. With its intensely floral aroma and vibrant flavor profile, it offers a window into what is possible when a group of farmers continues to maintain quality ancestral practices on their farms despite the growing challenges around them. We roast this coffee with a very light profile to preserve its delicate floral notes. However, we try to balance that in such a way that the coffee's natural sweetness and clarity shine through without overwhelming tartness.
Gogugu Washing Station info:
Nestled in the highlands of Uraga Woreda, the Gogogu Washing Station serves as a vital hub for 425 smallholder farmers. Under the ownership of Nigusse Debela, this wet mill processes cherries from the surrounding community, ensuring that only the ripest red cherries are selected. The meticulous processing involves de-pulping within 8–12 hours of harvest, fermentation in ceramic tanks for up to 72 hours, and sun-drying on raised beds to achieve optimal moisture content. This careful attention to detail results in a coffee that reflects the region's rich volcanic soil and ideal growing conditions
Region Info:
Guji is a renowned coffee-growing region in southern Ethiopia, celebrated for producing some of the country's most distinctive and expressive coffees. Located in the Oromia region, Guji was once considered part of the broader Sidamo designation but has since gained its own recognition due to its unique microclimates, high elevations (often exceeding 2,000 meters), and rich volcanic soils. The area's biodiversity and ample rainfall create ideal conditions for coffee cultivation, particularly for heirloom and indigenous varieties. Coffees from Guji are often prized for their complex flavor profiles—frequently showcasing floral aromatics, bright citrus acidity, and layered sweetness—making the region a favorite among specialty coffee roasters and drinkers around the world.
